Manisha Patel is a painter based in Oakland, California. She has been a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area for the past fifteen years and received her MFA in 2003 from the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition to exhibiting her fine art in venues throughout the US, Manisha has taught art-making to youth and worked on many commissions for private patrons and commercial clients.
In her paintings, there is a focus on repetition and patterns, an investigation of how small gestures evolve into larger stories. Colors are evocative of feelings, people and experiences. While flirting with lyrical reference, the paintings are firmly grounded in the present and only interested in their own evolution. They are made through a repetitive process of layering paint and washing it away. It is a natural process of transformation that makes visible the rhythm of time and change.
